"Dude I'm Not Jewish"

With all this marriage nightmare going on with Prop 8 I thought I would share with you a stand-up routine I did in June, 2008 after an 8 week class on doing comedy. Adding a bit of comedy into this dark part of the world helps me!

Hi Joe! I'm among your big fans. I've read your "10 Things" books and I'm reading your "Gay Affirmative Therapy" not because I'm a clinician, but because I enjoy soaking up anything and everything you have to say. I'm a 64 year old gay guy who recently came out to himself (and subsequently to his wife and children). After 50+ years of repression, I have a lot of catching up to do, and you've been my number one place to go for information and help (in addition to the coming out group at the local GLBT center). Cute story. A couple days ago my daughter (in college) was going by a movie theater with her roommate and her roommate's boyfriend. As they walked by "Milk", my daughter said: "My dad's going to be all over that movie!" The boyfriend said: "Why, because he's anti-gay?" And daughter said: "No, because he's gay." This brings up one of your qualities that I value so much: you are not hobbled by dichotomous thinking (as so many people are, including therapists). You affirm and value the variation that is reality. Love ya, Joe! Keep it up!
